POPULATION

 

District Kupwara is spread over an area of 2379 sq. kms., which comprises of 363 Inhabited and 4 Uninhabited villages/three tehsils and 13 CD Blocks as per Census 2011. It has a total population of 8.70 lakh as per census of 2011 which was estimated to have risen to 33.85 % from census 2001. The sex ratio is 843 Females per 1000 Males and the density of population in the district is 368. District has a population growth rate of 34.62 percent during the decade 2001 to 2011. Population is mostly living in rural areas and only 1.04 lakh souls live in urban areas. The biggest ethnic population is of Muslims and working force accounts for 32.67 of the population. The main occupation of the population is Agriculture. Details of population by tehsils, blocks, rural and urban areas, religious groups, age groups, distribution of working forces, etc., are given in the book ahead.

Chapter II

VITAL STATISTICS

Births and Deaths occurring in the State are recorded through the registration units i.e. Police Stations in rural areas and Notified Area Committees (NACs) in the urban areas. The police stations and the local body offices function as registration offices.

 

Directorate of Economics and Statistics conducts inspections of the field. Data is mechanically tabulated in the Central Tabulation Unit of Directorate of Economics and Statistics. The data on births and deaths registered under the Civil Registration System in the district are given in this chapter.

Chapter III

CLIMATE

Data on rainfall are recorded at Rain Gauge Station located at Kupwara. The amount of rainfall received during 24 hours is record at 8.30 hours (1st) day. A day recording rainfall at least 1/10 of an inch is taken as a rainy day. The data recorded on the rain fall for the year 2013 is given in this chapter.
